9 Influence of immersion time2)
If a thermometer at temperature () is suddenly immersed in a wellstirred water bath having a constant temperature ) and is withdrawn after 20 seconds, the thermometer reading, after cooling to ambient temperature ( to ),
must comply with maximum permissible error requirements (Clause 8), and
must not deviate from its stabilized reading for temperature by more than ().
This stabilized reading is the thermometer reading obtained when the thermometer has been cooled to ambient temperature, after reaching complete thermal equilibrium with the water bath at temperature . This reading must also meet the maximum permissible error requirements stipulated in Clause 8.
