A.5 Testing the solid-stem thermometer coloration
The scale, numbering and inscriptions will be examined to assure that they have been engraved or indelibly printed in compliance with Clauses 6 and 7 .
The thermometers are immersed for one hour in a 5 % aqueous solution of phenol, the temperature of which must be between and , or are subjected to the action of 96 % alcohol. The thermometers are then wiped with a. piece of lightcolored cloth which should not pick up any stains.
