When clinical thermometers are subject to the governmental metrological controls of a particular country, all or some of the following controls must be included, depending on the internal legislation of the country involved:

1. Pattern approval

   Each pattern of thermometer from each manufacturer is submitted to the pattern approval procedure.

   No modification of an approved pattern may be made without special authorization.
